EH: Behind the Scenes, Vol. 1
Let me start by apologizing. There was some confusion amongst the writers about who was supposed to go next. Samantha is going to go out of order this week, and should be posting something up in the next few days. To keep you entertained until then, we’ll do a special post.
Welcome to the first installment of a look behind the scenes of Return to Emerald Harbour (EH). Behind the scenes posts will show some of the things that didn’t make it into the story. This would include bloopers, glitches, outtakes, and some pictures that would show how we created some of the effects in the chapters.
First, how do you create a mine?

This is a bird’s eye view of the mine, as created by Kansine.

(Kansine’s notes are in italics)
“Behind the scenes” -crap – I wanted them to hammer something so that they’d look like they were mining, but even if I made all of them handy, they couldn’t do that until they learned some handiness.
Guess if I was laughing when there was announcements, like “Random has gained a skill point” all the time!!!! XD
I had created a group of eight miners for Kansine to use that I knew were basically all going to die in the disaster. I decided to give them the same name – Random Miner.
Well, I noticed that sinks WONT DO, ’cause they didn’t use hammers working on them!
But they DID use hammers on toilet seats, and I was like YAYYYY!!!
And there you have it: a working mine!
Originally, I hadn’t even put the miners in the handyman’s outfit. This picture of Ron Collier shows how I originally had dressed the miners.
Of course, the miners had other ideas….
Well… to start with… ALL THE MINERS WERE WEARING SUITS!!! Wtf?! XD
Have you seen these people? Someone has already noticed one. These are our simselves, and from time to time, they may make cameo appearances. From left to right: Kansine, Pam (aka Celara), Samantha, Meezletoe.
I swear…Linda Collier gets some of the best “in the mood for woo hoo” expressions ever.
One of my favorite pictures of Ronnie….he wuvs his horsie!
While I’m not into potty training shots much, I just love the expression TJ has as he looks up to his Daddy.
Bradford and Penny were married before the story events, but I actually did take a picture of them at their private ceremony on the beach.
The beach house was not always the color it is now. As this picture shows, it was originally green.
I didn’t use it in the story, but I love this reaction shot. This girl is excited about being proposed to!
There’s a reason you don’t sit out in the street to have a conversation. Luckily, in Sims 3, the car just passes right through them. Otherwise, it would have been an early end for Sed and two of the triplets.
The argument between Buck and Paula didn’t show these reaction shots. You can see that Paula was not happy with Buck….
…and Buck was also not happy about Paula nagging him. Oooooohhhh….angry unibrow.
One thing that didn’t show up much in the story is the Buck often will walk around in his tidy whities, especially in his own room. However, in this picture, Buck had just fiinished using the computer in Paula’s room, and Paula was in bed fast asleep at the time.
One of the more unusual traits is one that Angel has. He is never nude, as evidenced by his time in the shower.
Every time I see this picture, I can’t help thinking “Don’t eat the meatloaf!”
Even after switching careers, workaholic Trey still would work from home whenever he got a chance.
Right after Don greeted Alice the day they hooked up, they both randomly posed in the same position. Even the facial expressions are alike!
When Alice tried to embrace Don, it didn’t go as planned.
Don’s facial expression is priceless: a perfect WTF?!? face.
In this outtake, we see that Don’s romantic conquest did not go as easily as it did in the story. Dexter walked into the room and wanted to chat with Alice. He mainly complimented her musical ability. Too bad he didn’t warn her about his roomie.
So that’s it for this behind the scenes look at the story. Let us know if you’d like to see more posts like this as the story develops.

LOL, it was so funny!!! Especially the embracing fail and the wtf-face XD
What a cool idea! I always like behind-the-scenes stuff. I haven’t commented in a while because it would just basically say the same thing others are saying (plus I haven’t felt like it… hehe.) Anyway, XD at the ‘embrace’, and great work overall!
LOL at the embrace his face is PRICELESS!! XD
LOL! Funny all of you picked the same picture set to comment on. But you’re right, it is priceless!
Oh, and I noticed the simsselves right away XD
I love all the pics!!!! They all made me laugh so hard. My favorite has got to be the two where Alice tries to embrace Don. In the 2nd one, it looks like she’s trying to eat some chocolate he had in his pocket!!!!
Now I just got to the comments and read them. That must have been a favorite for everyone!
Maybe she’s trying to breast feed….
This was great XD
And thanks for pointing out that I noticed your sim-self. It made me feel special.
Cool post. Love to see more like it.
Do you all know each other in real life? Just felt like asking
. I LOVE this post, please do more like it!
We all met online, and it was our individual stories that brought us together. Most of us are from the US, but we’re spread out across the country. Kansine is from Finland. It makes for some interesting get togethers, because there’s a ten hour time difference between Kansine and me (I live in CA).
I will do my best to do another behind the scenes post on my next time playing. Until then, we’ll have to see what the other writers do.
That’s pretty neat! Did you use move objects on to move the miners away from the toilets? When Alice was trying to embrace Don, did she trip into him? I’m just curious what happened. lol! These photos are hilarious!
I’ll have to defer to Kansine on the mining pictures.
As to Alice and Don, I think the characters were somehow out of sync in position. It’s the same kind of glitch that caused the “flying toddler” sequence in the chapter “Wii Shing to Fly” in “Starr-y Skies”. In that one, the two charaters were farther apart than normal; in the case of Alice and Don, they were closer together than normal.
ROFL! I love when those glitches happen! I’m always thinking, “WTF?!” lol! I look forward to reading more of emerald harbour as it’s beginning really pulled me in.
Glad you’re liking it, and I’m looking forward to the next installments too!
Yep, I used move objects on
GASP!!! AWESOME story!!!!! It even came to my dreams, and that’s why I’d like to share my link even if my blog (about my dreams) is very UNinteresting and pointless and I just recently started it so there’s only a couple of dreams written there… So I don’t even recommend anyone to read it, only the lates dream, ’cause it was so funny how it came quite straight from this story, even the miners looked just like in this story. )
(teehehheheheheeehehe
Muhahahahahahaa… >;)
That was great. The embrace glitch it hilarious! The picture of them standing in the middle of the street brought out a couple of Sims flashbacks. Like in the Sims 1, if a sim or pet got in front of a car, the car would sit there and honk, and honk, and honk, and honk…LOL…Remember that?
I would definately love to see more posts like this. It shows that it is not as easy as it looks to make the presentation of posts that you guys do so beautifully.
